Gooseberry Mesa Trail
Gooseberry Mesa National Recreation Trail is located just outside of Hurricane, UT. Gooseberry is widely recognized as one of the best, if not THE best mountain biking destinations in the world!
Spectacular Views!
At an elevation of 5,200 feet, views from the mesa rims are spectacular. Rising to the north are the massive sandstone
sentinels of Zion National Park. Spread out below the west rim is a panorama of colorful desert mesas and water carved canyons. Gooseberry is designed for technical mountain biking. Singletrack and slickrock wind across the
mesa top in a series of interconnected trails bisected by a dirt road.
Unlike Moab's Slickrock Trail, there are no brutal hill-climbs. While the trail is rated as an "Advanced Technical" ride and some sections of the trail are signed, "Extreme Difficulty," it's possible for a solid upper-intermediate rider who is exercising caution and making prudent riding decisions to enjoy Gooseberry Mesa from start to finish. This trail is not an aerobic challenge. The ride from the trailhead along the South Rim section to "The Point," which is roughly the halfway mark, has a total elevation change of 100 feet. The ride from "The Point" and along the North Rim section back to the parking lot is slightly downhill. The total distance of the loop is approximately 13.5 miles (doesn't include the Hidden Canyon section). Red Bull Rampage
Even Red Bull recognizes the magnitude of the mountain biking trails here in St. George. The Red Bull Rampage is an invite-only freeride/downhill mountain bike competition held near Zion National Park in Virgin, Utah, just to the north of Gooseberry Mesa. Previously it was held off the Kolob Terrace Road, on the western boundary of Zion National Park. The Red Bull rampage has become one of the biggest mountain biking events of the year.
